余姚隶属于浙江省宁波市，位于浙江省东部宁绍平原。余姚地处长江三角洲南翼，东与宁波市江北区、海曙区相邻，南枕四明山，与奉化、嵊州接壤，西连绍兴市上虞区，北毗慈溪市，西北于钱塘江、杭州湾中心线与海盐县交界。余姚自古人杰地灵，是姚江学派的发祥地，也是虞世南、王守仁、黄宗羲、蒋梦麟、余秋雨、沈君山等人的故乡。宁波河姆渡遗址是国家级文物保护单位。余姚属浙东盆地山区和浙北平原交叉地区，东西极距58.5公里，南北极距79公里。行政区域面积1500.8平方公里，地势南高北低，中间微陷。南部为四明山区，山峦起伏，散布大小不等的台地和谷地，最高峰大长山青虎湾岗海拔979米，中部为姚江冲积河谷平原，有弧山残丘，点缀两岸，北部为钱塘江、杭州湾冲积平原，全市耕地63.78万亩，园地9.33万亩，林地78.2万亩。素有五山二水三分田之称。

收起展开全部余姚是宁波下辖的一个县级市。余姚是浙江省下辖的一个县级市，位于中国浙江省宁绍平原。余姚地处宁绍平原，在美丽富饶的长江三角洲南翼，东邻宁波市江北区、海曙区，南接四明山，西接奉化、嵊州，西接上虞区，北连慈溪市，西北连海盐县。是长三角重要的旅游城市，浙江省特色先进制造业基地，沿海生态保护区。余姚小甬铁路贯穿中部，杭甬高速公路贯穿北部。329国道，陆上大动脉，横贯市区北部；姚江，发源于大栏夏家岭，流经上虞，转向东，在宁波汇入甬江。姚江是浙东运河的一段，水陆交通便利。同时，余姚市隶属于浙江省经济中心宁波市，东距宁波栎社国际机场36公里，有直达高速公路。西距浙江省会杭州120公里，距杭州萧山国际机场仅一小时车程，航空优势明显。杭州湾以北，经沪杭甬高速到上海只需两个半小时，经杭州湾大桥到上海只需一个小时。余姚已被纳入上海“两小时交通圈”。海陆空交通便利，区位优势独特。扩展数据余姚的历史可以在文献中找到。自虞舜以来，就有“舜李庚山”和“虞藏秘图”之说。余姚在春秋时期属于越国，战国中期成为楚国的管辖地。余姚县建于秦朝，距今已有2200多年的历史。1985年，经国务院批准，余姚撤县设市。1995年，余姚被国务院提升为二类城市。余姚市素有县城之称，古城由南北两城组成，各具特色。北城建于东汉建安五年(200)，南城建于明朝嘉靖年间。时至今日，余姚城区原有的巷弄格局、街道规模、河网水系依然保存完好，与一片片民居建筑形成了较为完整的古城风貌。
